My Reason to Be...

Words are my personal, "raison d'être," even in my everyday life.  It's funny how our English language, whether in writing or speaking, is so intimidating to most people here in the United States.  So many I know tell me, "I can't write!"  Knowing how writing has been and is taught these days, I have to admit that I really can't blame them.

There have been so many years I've asked myself the question of why written words mean so much to me and there really isn't an easy answer.  I've always been a prolific reader and I think that's where my love of stories and writing began, but i've also had a journal where I wrote stories and sometime simply about life as I saw and see it.

Well, I have been away from my computer and my writing for quite a while, but will hopefully be returning in the next week.  I did not know how much I would miss it, but it has also given me a great deal of time to look seriously at who I am and what I want out of it in this faze of my life.

See you soon with something new!

  1. I'm glad you're back.

I am retired now, but taught last semester - the dreaded freshman composition course. I had been away from teaching for nearly three years and was both surprised and appalled by the lack of basic writing skills. Even in the second-year literature class, the students' were noticeably worse at writing essays.

There is also a concerning lack of critical thinking and knowledge. Scary really.

  2. Sadly I have to agree with you. I am even seeing some in business that I have dealt with recently using terrible English, and the spelling from even a PhD I write for recently was just terrible.

As to critical thinking I also see so little thinking at all these days.

  4. Yes, Pearl I do have another writing blog, it's called, "Writing and Beyond," (http://writingandbeyond.blogspot.com/) and though I haven't added much lately it is where I do bigger projects (both articles and creative writing). Thanks for asking!

  8. Hi Ciss!
Could you tell us on this blog what libraries mean to you? What was the first library you visited like, how old were you, who took you, or did you go by yourself?
How do you envision the library in your present life and environment to be, what are your wishes and dreams for the place that provides so much inspiration to us readers and writers?
I'll go check out your other blog now.
    Best, Judith
PS Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. It's wonderful to know one's words are read!
