Oh, Bother...

After what seems to be an eternity I have a connection for my keyboard - again.  You see I only have had a keyboard with a very black screen and no computer.  It's a long story.  Simply put I lost my old friend in a lightening strike on Memorial Day.

I bought a new(er) tower for a few days thanks to my son and a local computer store, that is until it's old owner came back to haunt my screen with boxes filled with "didn't save," and "lost files."  So the black tower was taken from me and returned from whence it came - for repairs, erasure and other corrective surgeries.

Today it returned strangely different, and yet somehow the same.

I'm relearning some things, and finding my way through the Alice like world that is like my old computer - but isn't as well.  I only have a Swiss cheese folder for my files these days.  The computer seems to be taking forever to find each rabbit hole that holds what files are there...I've lost so many since the accident.

Maybe a blank slate is better than nothing, but I certainly miss my old blather.  Hopefully, I will return to the real me soon, but until then I shall play with the words and pop in and out with my own elegant and colorful Cheshire Cat online.

Cheshire Cat: You may have noticed that I'm not all there myself.

  1. You may not be all there, but your stripes are very nice!

  2. Thank you! I had to get over being angry so I got just a bit creative in writing about the computer difficulties, and as you can tell it kind of grew on its own! :-)

  3. Computers, like most conveniences, grow on us as we get used to them. I went through slight withdrawal over the past weekend, as Linda and I traveled via motorcycle. My 13" laptop was slightly too large to pack in the luggage with all the necessities. At least we had our trusty iPod touches with us to connect to the hotel wi-fi.

I hope things get back to normal for you soon.

  4. Thanks for the good wishes on the computer, Bob. It's a slow re-introduction! I had a external hard drive but because of the difficulties in saving anything to it did not use it enough - as a result I am without a lot of my files. Frustrating, but my own fault I'm afraid.

It is better, and my son (our computer man)will give us time to do the final fixes to at least make it run better this coming week. Until then I am happily back to writing and everything else online at least.

  5. Oops, one more reminder that I need to move some files to my flash drive, just in case. Thanks, Ciss.

When you have time, please stop by my blog. I have an award for you today.

  6. I hope things get better, soon,...
It is frustrating to be out of the loop, in a flood of tears, with strange characters mocking you!
    Take Care~

  7. Sometimes it can be fun to start from scratch ... so much junk accumulates if we let it. You should get a good surge protector. For $90 you can get a really good one.

  8. Patricia,
I learned the hard way about saving things! My external hard drive is such a pain to save things to that I often put it off - that's what I get for getting a cheap one! :-)

    Ellie,
It is hard to be out of the loop when you're use to doing almost everything online. For me the tears gave way to frustrations, and then to the laughter which my husband and I shared for over three days! It really has turned into such a comedy of errors.

    Robert,
I am finding out that it can be nice to not have everything I use to keep. There are some files I truly miss, but I've become rather resilient when it comes to recreating my newsletters and most of the files I truly miss. I've always been such a pack rat so in so many ways it was a good thing. Thanks for the encouragement!
